Free Woodland Skills Training

Avon Needs Trees are running a free training Course: Woodland Skills Training Programme.

The woodland Skills training programme is designed to help adults who want to work with trees and woodlands to gain skills and experience that might lead to employment, training or volunteering. The Woodland Skills training programme is a combination of practical on-site learning experiences and talks from industry professionals on a range of topics relating to woodland creation, tree care and land management. It is free to attend but you must apply and be selected onto the programme first. The application deadline is Wed 6th December

CVWG updated winter Events programme & Barn Owl Report 2023

The updated Cam Valley Wildlife Group Events programme includes the adition of an introduction to a local re-wilding project at the AGM, a talk by the RSPB that will focus on its work on the Somerset Levels, and our New Year’s Day walk details, which are part of the New Year Plant Hunt organised each year by the Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland. The 2023 Barn Owl Project Report is also now up.

CVWG Bowood Woodland Garden trip cancelled

The visit to see the bluebells at Bowood Woodland Garden on 4th May has been cancelled.

CVWG sightings pages reorganised

We have split the sightings into a page for the current year, Sightings 2023, and a Sightings Archive for previous years’ sightings. The parent page (still called Sightings) is still there, but now has links and information. March sightings include Red Kites, Barn Owls, Martins, other birds, lizards and insects.

CVWG Events and Botany Walks posted

The weekly Cam Valley Wildlife Group Bontay walks led by Helena Crouch start on Wednesday 5th April and run until Wednesday 30th August. Did you know that our flora recording project has been going for over 25 years and that now one of the most recorded hectads (10 km x 10 km squares) in Britain and Ireland in the recently published BSBI Plant Atlas 2020 is in our area? Our website has the Botany Walks Programme to view and as a download.

Barn Owl Project Report 2022 posted – CVWG, North Somerset

The Barn Owl Project report for 2022 is now available along with previous reports back to 2016. The earlier reports contain charts showing the number of breeding pairs in the Cam Valley Wildlife Group area going back to 1995.

Monday 19th September, Talk in Timsbury – Outer Hebrides

Andy Daw will be giving this talk as part of the Timsbury Natural History Group’s programmes of events at Conygre Hall, North Rd, Timsbury, BA2 OJQ. 7.30 pm.

Thursday 22nd September Bat Walk, Haydon Batch

The entrance to Haydon batch is behind the Haydon Que Club beside the Haydon Allotments. Parking is available, but please keep the allotments entrance clear.

Neale Mellersh, experienced lepidopterist and County Recorder for Micro-moths,  will be giving a talk on the moths of Radstock at the Radstock Working Men’s Club. The first talk of the Cam Valley Wildlife Group autumn/winter programme
