Cam Valley Wildlife Group Botany Walks 2025

All walks are on Wednesday evenings from April to September, meeting at 7pm.

The 2025 walks were:

Wed 2 Apr CHILCOMPTON CHURCHYARD [6452]

Park and meet at church car park for a spring walk around the churchyard and environs. The car park is opposite the church, on bend in lane (ST64735244).

Wed 9 Apr HOLCOMBE WOOD [6650]

Park and meet at Holcombe Old Church at end of lane (ST66885068) for a spring walk in the woods.

Wed 16 Apr FARRINGTON GURNEY [6355]

Park and meet in the old village hall car park, opposite the school in Church Lane (ST63185565) for a walk around the village.

Wed 23 AprRADSTOCK – WATERSIDE [6854]

Park locally (eg Church Street car park) and meet at St Nicholas Church (ST68895467) for a short walk in the churchyard and beside the stream.

Wed 30 Apr CLUTTON [6259]

Park locally (eg Venus Lane) and meet outside the church (ST62295891) for a walk in the churchyard and perhaps to Clutton Tumps.

Wed 7 May PEASEDOWN ST JOHN [7157]

Park in Eckweek Lane, Peasedown St John, and meet by the Cemetery (ST71115776) for a circular walk to see Bath Asparagus.

Wed 14 May EXCURSION TO BLACK ROCK

A walk to explore this area of rocky limestone grassland and woodland at the top of Cheddar Gorge. Meet at Black Rock Gate (ST48205453), where there is roadside parking. Stout boots/shoes advisable.

Wed 21 May FOSSE WAY FROM DUNKERTON [7159, 7160, 7260]

Park and meet in the layby (ST71515971) on W side of A367, which is just up the hill from the turning to Dunkerton, for a walk up the Fosse Way.

Wed 28 May CAMERTON WOOD [6957]

Park locally and meet outside The Red Post (ST69865715) for a walk to Camerton Wood in search of Bird’s-nest Orchids.

Wed 4 Jun TEMPLE CLOUD TO CAMELEY [6157]

Park locally and meet in Paulmont Rise by the start of the footpath heading W (ST62025807) for a walk to Cameley, returning beside the Cam Brook.

Wed 11 Jun SOUTHSTOKE [7460]

Park in village and meet at seat on green (ST74706130) for a walk S from the village.

Wed 18 Jun EXCURSION TO WHITE SHEET DOWNS

An outing to see chalk grassland plants, including orchids. Take the B3092 south from Frome, through Maiden Bradley and Norton Ferris, turn L at the Red Lion up White Sheet Lane, and meet in the small car park (ST79773501).

Wed 25 Jun HOLLOW MARSH MEADOW / LONG DOLE MEADOW [6156, 6056]

Park and meet at the Farrington Gurney end of Pitway Lane (ST62775560) for a long walk to see these species-rich meadows.

Wed 2 Jul STON EASTON [6253]

Park and meet on verge of A37 opposite church (ST62345345). Parking may also be available in Hay Street (ST62415341), just past churchyard. Lift share if possible. A long walk to Terrace Wood.

Wed 9 Jul SOUTH OF KILMERSDON [6951]

Park in Kilmersdon and meet in the centre by the church(ST69555241). We shall walk south along the Coffin Route and hope to see Greater Broomrape.

Wed 16 Jul WELLOW BROOK WALK [6554, 6654]

Park locally and meet at the start of the Wellow Brook Walk by Thicketmead Bridge in Northmead Road (ST65765478) to explore this local Greenspace.

Wed 23 Jul COMBE HAY TO UPPER TWINHOE [7359, 7459]

Park and meet on the S side of the road leading down into village from the west (ST730599) for a walk to the east of the village.

Wed 30 Jul CLANDOWN BATCH [6855]

Park and meet at The Downs (ST67955608), the lane to the former church, for a walk around Clandown Batch.

Wed 6 Aug RADSTOCK – GREENWAY AND FIVE ARCHES [6854]

Park and meet at the play park car park on N side of A362 W of Radstock (ST68645493) for a walk along the Greenway.

Wed 13 Aug TIMSBURY [6658]

Park in Timsbury, eg in car park off the High Street (ST66835869), or on street, and meet at the church gate on W side of The Avenue (ST66775864), for a walk around the village.

Wed 20 Aug WESTFIELD [6753]

Park in Westfield Trading Estate and meet at the junction of First Avenue and Second Avenue (ST67505352) for a short walk.

Wed 27 Aug BRONWEN, PAULTON
